We Can Make a Difference
Electing a president is inspirational. It’s harder for people to remain involved once the presidential election is over. But to make fundamental change in American politics, it’s vital. Many of us, particularly Democrats, hibernate for four years, re-emerging only to take stock of the disastrous consequences resulting from our absence.
In the 2008 Presidential election, 65 million Democrats voted for House candidates. That number dropped to 39 million in the 2010 midterm elections, paving the way for the Tea Party takeover of the House, an historic gain of 63 seats and an even-more radicalized republican Party.
Four years later, that pattern was repeated in the Senate: Democratic voting for Senate candidates in 2008 fell from 33.6 million to less than 19 million in the 2014 midterms, handing the Republicans the Senate majority (and their largest increase in the House since World War II).
LET’S JOIN BARNEY AND SHOW THE IMPORTANCE OF
VOTING, MID-TERMS, and CONGRESS
As President Barack Obama said in his Howard Commencement Speech:

You don’t think that made a difference in terms of the Congress I’ve got to deal with? You don’t think that made a difference? What would have happened if you had turned out at 50, 60, 70 percent, all across this country?
People try to make this political thing really complicated. Like, what kind of reforms do we need? And how do we need to do that? You know what, just vote. It’s math. If you have more votes than the other guy, you get to do what you want. It’s not that complicated.
Finally, a film which tells the truth about what caused the financial crisis in 2008!
